Family sues Huddersfield company Mamas & Papas over buggy
Company says the buggy met strict safety standards
A family is suing a Huddersfield-based company claiming their 10-month-old child was thrown into the road when their buggy overturned.
They say they were taking the youngster to nursery when the Mamas & Papas pushchair turned over near their home in London.
The baby was thrown onto the ground, landing face down in the road.
Mum Jenna Storey, who works in the City, says luckily there was no oncoming traffic, and passers by helped get her and her son on to the pavement.
She said her son has recovered and she has been offered a new buggy, but wants the Huddersfield firm to investigate for the sake of other families.
She said Mamas & Papas told her more than 7,000 of the Sola City chairs had been sold since 2014 with no similar problems. They were discontinued last year.
“I didn’t want to go to the courts,” said 31-year-old Mrs Storey told the London Standard. “It’s not about the money. If we win compensation some would go into my baby’s savings and some to the charity my husband works for, which tackles neo-natal deaths in Africa. A buggy shouldn’t overturn. If this is a known flaw they should do a recall or investigate further.”
