Metal plate in jaw after man is headbutted in street brawl outside McDonalds

A man had to have a metal plate inserted into his jaw after he suffered two fractures when he was head-butted by one man and then punched by another on a night out in Huddersfield.
Philip Standfast prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court the violence occurred when Edward McSheffrey and Kyle Lynch were in an altercation with two complainants Andrew Elliott and Benjamin Davies in the early hours of April 9 last year.
The trouble happened outside McDonalds around 2.50am and the incident escalated when Lynch headbutted Mr Elliot with such force “his body left the ground.”
McSheffrey also threw a punch towards Mr Davies which he deflected before backing away.
Mr Standfast said Mr Elliott, having got up, then threw a punch at Lynch which was witness by a third man Austen Hudson who had been in McDonalds when the incident began.
Seeing what was happening to his friends he ran out and threw a punch towards Mr Elliott before McSheffrey also punched him causing him to stagger into the road before other people intervened.
Mr Elliott was taken to hospital where the double fracture to his jaw needed surgery to insert the metal plate. He spent three days in hospital as a result.
Mr Davis suffered a badly bruised left knee and bruises on his arm, after falling heavily to the ground after a push from Hudson.
Chloe Hudson representing Lynch said in April last year he was drinking too much but had addressed that since and was sorry for his actions. He worked as a joiner with his father and his family were horrified at what he had done.
Allan Armbrister for McSheffrey said he was of previous good character who was not normally a drinker and regretted what had happened.
Carl Kingsley for Hudson said he was not present at the initial assault and had reacted at what he perceived to be the situation.
