The family event escalated into a day from hell on Sunday afternoon after a scuffle led to mass panic.
Police were called to the fair after members of the public reported that a man had a gun, a claim he allegedly made to security after being thrown out after a fight.
The fair’s organiser Alan Cowie said a man drove at staff after being ejected.
A 20-year-old man was later arrested and bailed.
Lindsay Maguire, 33, from Golcar , was at the fair with her daughter when trouble kicked off.
“The first I heard was that there had been a scuffle and someone had been thrown out for punching someone”, she said.
“We saw families running for their lives shouting ‘he’s got a gun’.
“We ran to the furthest point and hid.
“There was only one entrance and exit and everyone was trying to get out, someone had to kick down a gate to let people out.
“We were all petrified. We thought it could be a terrorist attack.”
Witnesses claimed a man had threatened he had the weapon after being kicked out of the fair.
